Mephisto Genetics started almost by accident in 2012, when two English friends, Mitch and Tim, turned a rainy British summer into an informal competition to see who could grow the biggest, best-quality autoflowering harvest. Neither was happy with the results - autoflowering genetics at the time had a well-earned reputation for being weaker and less flavourful than photoperiod strains - and that disappointment became the spark for building a seed company dedicated specifically to proving autos could be genuinely connoisseur-grade.

Restrictive UK cannabis laws pushed the pair to relocate to Spain later that same year to breed full-time, and the results have been widely recognised since: Mephisto has picked up "Best Breeder" honours at both the American Autoflower Cup and the Autoflower World Cup, and their strains regularly test above 25% THC - genuinely rivaling photoperiod potency, something that was considered impossible for autoflowering genetics a decade ago. Every seed the company sells still passes through the hands of just the two original founders, from pollination through to final packaging, a level of hands-on control unusual for a brand of Mephisto's size.
