CBC Isolate
CBC isolate at Express Highs
Here at Express Highs we've been working with cannabinoids for a long time. We've developed quite the reputation for delivering (discreetly, of course) the best products available in Europe. That's true for compliant cannabinoids such as CBD and CBG, and also for cannabichromene, aka CBC.
What is cannabichromene (CBC) isolate?
Cannabichromene isolate is cannabichromene in its purest form: a single compound, separated out from everything else the hemp plant produces. It's typically 95% to 99% pure and, unlike our CBD, CBG and CBN isolates, it is not a white powder – CBC isolate is naturally a thick, semi-fluid oil at room temperature, rich yellow to dark amber in colour. No other cannabinoids and no terpenes. It's just CBC. This type of isolate is free of all plant material and has been thoroughly processed.
What makes this compound different from other cannabinoids comes down to how it's made and what it does. CBC is one of the “big six” cannabinoids, but most hemp strains only produce it in tiny amounts. The plant makes cannabichromenic acid (CBCA) from cannabigerolic acid (CBGA), and that CBCA converts to CBC through decarboxylation, the same way THCA becomes THC and CBDA becomes CBD. If that went over your head, do you remember making brownies? Remember how you have to bake the herb at low heat, either in the oven or in a pot of butter? Well, that's the process we're talking about. It removes the acid group from the material and activates the compounds. Otherwise those brownies would be duds.
The problem is that most strains put their energy into making THC or CBD instead, leaving CBC as a minor player. That's why CBC is one of the rarer and more expensive cannabinoids to produce in quantity, and why a verified, high-purity isolate is the practical way to work with it.
How CBC works differently
Unlike THC, which binds directly to CB1 receptors, and unlike CBD, which has a complicated and still-debated relationship with the endocannabinoid system, CBC appears to have little to no affinity for CB1 or CB2 receptors. That's a big deal, because most people assume every cannabinoid works by flipping the same switches in your body. CBC doesn't. Instead, research has noted it works through other channels, including TRPV1 and TRPA1 ion channels, and it has been observed to influence enzymes such as cyclooxygenase in laboratory models. In plain terms, CBC seems to do its thing through a different set of doors than the more famous cannabinoids. It's not knocking on the same receptors THC and CBD use. It's finding its own way in.
There is a clinical trial currently running that is examining CBC at much higher doses, 400 mg and 600 mg daily, with results not expected until around 2028. That's a big jump from the roughly 25 mg doses that have been studied in humans so far – more than ten times higher. The study is designed to measure safety through adverse-event tracking and blood markers. We won't know the answers for a few years, but the fact that the trial exists at all tells you researchers think CBC is worth investigating seriously.
Physical properties, handling and storage
Let's talk about the physical properties and how you handle it. CBC isolate is a semi-fluid, viscous oil at room temperature, amber-gold in colour, with a herby, slightly resinous or musky odour and an earthy, bitter flavour.
That's a big difference from CBG or CBD isolate, which are white crystalline powders with no smell or taste. CBC is a liquid; it's got colour, it's got a smell, and it's got a taste. It's a much more noticeable material to work with. It's lipophilic, which means it dissolves in oils and organic solvents but not in water. It needs gentle heating to flow more easily before mixing into formulations, so warm the jar briefly in your hands or in a bowl of warm (not hot) water to get it to blend evenly. It's not complicated, but it's not quite as plug-and-play as a powder either. Store it in an airtight container away from UV light and heat. Unopened, shelf life is typically around 12 months from manufacture. That's shorter than CBG isolate, which gets about 24 months, so keep an eye on the date and don't let it sit around forever.
Why buy CBC isolate from Express Highs?
Every batch of our CBC isolate is tested by an independent third-party lab for potency and purity, and the lab report is available so you know exactly what you're getting. Remember that here at Express Highs we carry the newest and most interesting novel cannabinoids for researchers and collectors. Don't risk a delivery that never arrives from sketchy online retailers with no history, or even sketchier personal meet-ups. It's easier to get CBC isolate directly to your door through us than any of that, with fast, discreet shipping across Europe.
