CBT Isolate
CBT isolate at Express Highs
CBT isolate can be hard to find, but here at Express Highs we ship it right to your door. If you're looking to buy interesting cannabinoids, we've got you covered. We've got the common compounds, but we've also got the harder-to-find ones as well. If that's important to you, you're in the right spot. These compounds can be hard to find in person at all, anywhere in Europe. Discreet shipping from Express Highs really is one of the only ways you can check CBT isolate out.
What is cannabicitran (CBT) isolate?
Cannabicitran isolate is CBT in its purest form: a single cannabinoid separated from everything else the hemp plant produces, typically 95% or higher in purity. Unlike our CBD, CBG and CBN isolates, it is not a white powder – CBT isolate is a thick, viscous oil at room temperature, clear to pale golden in colour, with only a faint odour and little flavour of its own. No other cannabinoids, no terpenes, no plant material – just CBT, with the exact profile shown on the lab report for each batch.
CBT is one of the rarest cannabinoids in hemp, and for decades it was barely studied. Most people who know cannabinoids can name THC, CBD, CBG, maybe CBC and CBN if they've done some reading. CBT rarely comes up. But here's the thing that sets it apart: natural CBT is racemic, which means it exists as a 50/50 mixture of two mirror-image molecules called enantiomers. This is unusual. THC and CBD are biosynthesised as single, enantiomerically pure compounds. The plant makes one version and only one version.
CBT is not like that. The plant makes both versions in equal amounts, and they sit there together in a 50/50 mix. Research published in 2023 confirmed that natural cannabicitran from Cannabis sativa extracts displays no electronic circular dichroism signal, meaning the two enantiomers cancel each other out optically. The researchers separated them using chiral-phase HPLC and found equal peak areas. This isn't just a chemical curiosity. The two enantiomers could theoretically have different biological activities, which is why patent literature exists specifically for isolating and characterising them. If the two halves of the mixture do different things, then separating them matters. That's a question researchers are still working on, but the fact that patents exist for the separation tells you people think it's worth pursuing.
What the research says so far
The receptor profile is still being mapped. That's honest phrasing, because the research on CBT is thin compared to what exists for THC and CBD. CBT has been reported to act on the GPR18 (NAGly) receptor, based on an animal study that observed effects through what appears to be a GPR18-mediated mechanism. A separate in vitro study found CBT achieved a moderate 35.2% block of TRPV1-mediated calcium influx in sensitised neurons. Moderate is the right word; it's not a dramatic effect, but it's measurable. It's not a CB1 or CB2 agonist in the way THC is, and it doesn't appear to be psychoactive. So whatever CBT is doing, it's not doing it by activating the same receptors that make THC intoxicating. One study, one mechanism, one animal model: that's where the research stands right now. It's early, but it's real.
Physical properties, handling and storage
Because CBT isolate is an oil rather than a crystalline powder, it handles more like our CBC and CBDP isolates than like CBD. It's lipophilic, so it dissolves readily in carrier oils, butter and alcohol but not in water. It's quite viscous at room temperature, so warm the jar briefly in your hands or in a bowl of warm (not hot) water before weighing out a dose, and it will flow and blend evenly into oil-based formulations. Its mild odour and flavour disappear once diluted. Store it in an airtight container away from heat and UV light; a cool, dark cupboard is fine for short-term use, and the fridge is best if you plan to keep it for a long time.
Know your source
One thing worth knowing about sourcing: because CBT occurs naturally alongside CBD in hemp extracts, the CBT on the market can come from very different supply chains and purity levels can vary. Research has emphasised the need for certified reference standards for CBT precisely because it's encountered at such varying concentrations, and two products can look similar on paper while having a very different story behind them. That's why we publish an independent third-party lab report for every batch we sell, so you can see exactly what's in the jar rather than taking anyone's word for it.
