Brothers Grimm Seeds was founded in 1996 by Rick Campanella - known throughout the industry as MrSoul - and his partner Sly, growing out of connections MrSoul had built distributing seeds for the Dutch Super Sativa Seed Club back in 1987. MrSoul, who'd studied nuclear engineering in New York, brought an engineer's precision to breeding, designing his own climate control and hydroponic systems as he built out the company's genetic library.
The brand's defining creation, Cinderella 99 (commonly known as C99), became one of the most influential sativa genetics of its era and remains the strain Brothers Grimm is best known for, alongside classics like Apollo 13, Killer Queen and Rosetta Stone. The operation ran successfully for six years before security concerns forced a shutdown in 2002; the genetics were carefully preserved in the years that followed, and MrSoul revived the brand in Colorado in 2015 alongside fellow breeder Duke Diamond, bringing the original catalogue back to market.
MrSoul has been explicit about keeping a small, tightly managed gene pool rather than expanding indiscriminately, preferring to develop new variations - including fully feminised versions of classics like Cinderella XX and Rosetta Stone XX - from a genetic base he knows intimately rather than chasing an ever-larger catalogue.
