Heavyweight Seeds began in 2008 after its founding team encountered a local grower whose mother plants were producing exceptional results - a chance meeting that led them to buy clones and bring them back to Spain to begin their own breeding programme. Rather than rushing to market, the team spent roughly two years crossing, selecting and refining those genetics before releasing their first seeds commercially in 2010, wanting to be confident in what they were putting their name on before launch.

The breeder's approach to quality control is genuinely unusual: rather than testing germination under ideal conditions the way most seed banks do, Heavyweight deliberately germinates test batches in poor conditions - inconsistent temperature and humidity - specifically to select for genetics that push through regardless. It's a stress-testing method built around resilience rather than best-case performance, giving some added confidence that seeds will perform even if conditions in a home grow aren't perfect.
