Ethos Genetics was founded in Colorado by breeder Colin Gordon, whose route into cannabis breeding was anything but conventional - a former poker player and cannabis cultivation consultant, Gordon ran a consulting business called Ethos Collective during Colorado's early legal cannabis boom before pivoting to build his own genetics company. The name reflects the mission directly: Gordon has been explicit that Ethos exists to "change the ethos" of how cannabis genetics get bred and released.
That shows up most clearly in the brand's testing process. Rather than rushing new crosses to market, Ethos strains go through multiple rounds of phenotype selection and stress testing before release, and the team uses a proprietary "Alpha Seeds" method designed to feminise plants without the stress that can trigger hermaphroditism in reverted mother plants. The result is a catalogue known for growing true to label - what's on the pack is genuinely what shows up in the garden.
