The Cali Connection was founded in Los Angeles in 2008 by Edward "Swerve" Clarizio, a first-generation Italian-American whose farming instincts trace back to his father and grandfather's agricultural work in Italy. Before founding the company, Swerve spent years from 2003 onward supplying LA's medical cannabis community with rare, elite clone-only genetics that became known simply as "Swerve's Cuts" - cuts of legendary strains like Tahoe OG, SFV OG, Pre-98 Bubba Kush and Larry OG that, at the time, existed only as clones passed between growers and had never been available as seed.

Swerve's core mission with The Cali Connection was turning those clone-only California legends into genuinely stable, true-breeding seed lines - working genetics through as many as six or seven filial generations until they bred true, rather than releasing an unstabilised first-generation cross. The strategy paid off publicly at the 2012 Amsterdam Cannabis Cup, where the brand picked up multiple awards and, as Swerve puts it, "brought LA to Amsterdam" - introducing authentic West Coast OG genetics to an international audience for the first time.

The catalogue today spans the Original Line of foundational strains (Tahoe OG, SFV OG, DeadHead OG) alongside a Gold Line crossing those award-winning originals with more contemporary California genetics like Gelato and Wedding Cake, plus curated selections from independent Californian breeders Swerve works with directly.
