Elite Seeds was founded in 2007 in Valencia by a team of university graduates specifically trained in plant genetics, agricultural science and biotechnology - a notably academic background for a cannabis seed bank. The founders had already been active in the Spanish cannabis scene for years, having opened Valencia's first grow shop, Kanopia, back in 1999, long before starting their own breeding operation.

What makes Elite Seeds genuinely distinctive is its research focus: operating out of its own laboratory in the University of Valencia Science Park, using HPLC chromatography to analyse cannabinoid content, the team has positioned itself at the forefront of breeding for rare, lesser-studied cannabinoids like THCV and CBDV rather than just THC and CBD. Elite Seeds was the first seed bank to release a strain built around near-pure CBD (Solodiol), a THCV-and-THC-focused strain (Novarine), a CBDV-and-CBD strain (Sedativa), and even Quatrovarin - a strain expressing THCV, THC, CBDV and CBD in close to equal ratios.

That scientific rigour extends to seed handling as well, with strains conserved and shipped in distinctive, collectible key-chain tins designed for secure transport and storage. For growers specifically interested in cannabinoid profiles beyond standard high-THC or high-CBD genetics, Elite Seeds remains one of the few breeders anywhere doing serious work in this space.
