Positronic Seeds traces back to Wernard Bruining, a figure so central to Dutch cannabis history he's often nicknamed "the Potfather." Bruining opened Amsterdam's first coffeeshop, Mellow Yellow, in 1973, then went on to found the Green Team home-growing collective and, in 1985, opened Positronics - the first cannabis grow shop in Europe, selling seeds, clones and cultivation supplies out of Amsterdam and distributing genetics that shaped the city's early coffeeshop scene, including Skunk #1, Purple Haze and Northern Lights.
Positronics closed in 1996 after running into financial trouble, and its genetics were scattered among former staff and associates for nearly two decades. The brand's revival came through Sebastian Garcia, a grow shop owner in Malaga who'd long admired Bruining's original work; the two connected, Bruining agreed to share his genetics, and Positronic Seeds was rebuilt in Spain using the original strain lines Bruining had developed decades earlier.
Today's catalogue centres on those historic genetics reworked into feminised and autoflowering form - Purple Haze and Black Widow remain standout classics, alongside newer releases like the high-THC Afghan Express autoflower. Notably, Positronics' genetics were also selected by Uruguay's Cannabis Regulation and Control Institute (IRCCA) to help supply the country's state medical cannabis programme.
